Experience investing in African rural real assets

Team with significant knowledge of Indian Ocean Africa having lived and or worked in target geographies. Majority of members have worked together in different capacities for many years.

Experience supporting the development of rural African communities

Developed smallholder contract farming businesses in Zimbabwe and Tanzania with over 1,000 farmers growing maize and soybean. Supported the design of UKAid’s £30mn Agriculture Impact Investing Equity Fund in Mozambique.

Established team working together for years

  • More than 30 years of experience managing agricultural projects in Africa, including countries such as Mozambique, Malawi, Zambia, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Sudan

  • Over 8 years of private-sector impact experience in sub-Saharan Africa, with a focus on smallholder farming
  • Master’s in International Affairs from Sciences Po Paris and B.A. in International Affairs from The George Washington University, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude
  • Native English and Spanish speaker, fluent in Portuguese and French

Julian Spezzati



  • Over 15 years of experience living in Africa
  • Working out of ThirdWay Africa’s Maputo office for the past 4 years, supporting corporate finance advisory mandates and private equity investments in Mozambican agriculture and forestry
  • MSc Strategic Management from the Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University Rotterdam, where he graduated as part of his honoursclass. BSc International Business Administration from the same school.
  • Native French and English speaker. Fluent in Portuguese

Arsenio Lampiao

Legal Counsel


  • Over 8 years of experience in Corporate Law, Corporate Litigation, Corporate Finance and Foreign Investments
  • Member of the Mozambican Bar and the Massachusetts State Bar Association as a foreign trained counsel
  • Formerly worked as an in-house counsel for Banco Comerciale de Investimentos(BCI), and as a legal associate for Vasconcelos Porto in Mozambique
  • Strong sector experience in renewable energy financing in the US and in Mozambique
  • L.L.M from Harvard Law School, L.L.M from University of Oregon and L.L.B from Eduardo Mondlane University.
  • Native Portuguese speaker. Fluent in English and Spanish

Sharai Mpofu

Investment Analyst


  • Dual Degree Bachelor of Laws (LLB) & Bachelor in Business Administration (BBA) from IE University, Madrid. Law & Philosophy study abroad at King’s College London
  • Previous internship experience includes: Rural financial services at Virl Microfinance, Commercial Law at Kantor & Immerman LP (Zimbabwe) & Academic publishing at IE Law School with Hart Publishing (Madrid)
  • Native English and Shona speaker, intermediate Spanish & elementary French

James Egremont-Lee

ESG Analyst


  •  James has served as Head of Corporate Affairs for Rift Valley Corporation for the last 5 years. His work has focused on agriculture and renewable energy businesses in Mozambique, Tanzania and Zimbabwe, and most recently leading the development of the Niassa Natural Capital Association (ACNN) and the Luatize Integrated Resource Management Area (LAGRI) projects in Niassa.
  •  Prior to this, James worked in the safari and tourism industry in Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe for 12 years, working with conservation and wildlife management projects, as well as park management and tourism development specifically within the Niassa Nature Reserve ecosystem in Mozambique.
